Ganderbal, May 26 (KNO): In a heart-wrenching incident, the body of Mohammad Shameem Mir 44—who tragically drowned on Friday afternoon—was recovered after a tireless rescue operation carried out by locals, officials, and specialized forces in Paribal area of Ganderbal.
The recovery was made possible through the brave efforts of local resident, Abdul Hameed Khanday from Shallabugh, who courageously stepped in to retrieve the body amid emotionally charged and difficult circumstances.
“It was a painful moment, but I couldn't stand by while a family was waiting to see their loved one. I just did what any human should do," Ab Hameed told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) while recalling the moment.
He praised the unified spirit of the local community, stating, “The people of Shallabugh, Rabitar, Paribal, and adjoining areas made heavy efforts and provided all possible help to retrieve the body. This was a joint effort driven by humanity.”
A large-scale rescue operation had earlier been launched by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Marine Commandos, J&K Police, Rescue Team Kangan, and local volunteers. After relentless efforts, the body was successfully recovered and later handed over to the bereaved family following necessary legal formalities later body handover to family.
